One Island One Resort

The first resort in the Maldives was opened in 1972. During the last 33 years tourism has developed into one of the most important industry in the country. In the Maldives each resort is built on its own island - just one resort on each island. Now there are over 90 resort islands in the Maldives, each island with its own unique natural beauty, style and concept. While some offerpeople a holiday of total relaxation and peace, others offer many activities and entertainment for people to enjoy. Some are designed using indigenous Maldivian styles while others have incorporated the most modern concepts.
Some resorts offer a real ‘getaway from it all’, of course with all the comforts in your room. These often make it a point to avoid motorized water-sports, for the peace and quite you may prefer. At others you may, get away from it all, if you prefer. However, there is a wide range of activities, entertainment, and games on offer, so that you can get all you want, if you feel like it.Style is another aspect that you may want to consider before you make your choice. Some resorts maintain the unique Maldivian style; thatched roofing, sand underfoot and traditional-styled staff uniforms among other things, with great care. While at others you would find the soft white sand on the beach and of course the typical island atmosphere, but inside, public areas may be tiled, and the staff uniforms, more formal.
In fact each and every resort is unique in its own way. If you consider the individual resorts carefully before you make your choice, you would have no trouble selecting one to suit your taste and holiday budget.

Scuba Diving in the Maldives
The Maldives are located in the Indian Ocean and stretch 900 kilometres from north to south. They are made up of over 1200 tiny, low-lying coral islands surrounded by white sand in 26 atolls. The islands are some distance from land, which means there is an abundance of marine life. Night dives are a must as the reefs become highly active, with predators on the prowl. The Maldives are particularly renowned for the large pelagics that visit the area, particularly sharks and rays. Reefs form channels and lagoons, but don’t expect many wreck dives as these are minimal and not very spectacular.
The Maldives has a wet season is between May and August, which reduces visibility and may restrict the number of accessible dive sites. The hottest air temperatures are from April to June. December to March has the lowest humidity and the clearest water, so may be a good time of year to visit. However, a plankton bloom in early May causes lower visibility, but attracts whale sharks and manta rays.
Banana Reef was the first dive site to ever be discovered in the Maldives and is still among the best. The best diving at this site is on the banana-shaped area in the northeastern where there are caves, gutters and overhangs filled with fish life and soft coral. Spend as much time as possible near the coral heads; if you begin the dive with your left shoulder to the reef, this is an excellent way to observe the area.At Banana Reef, you are likely to see many fish, including Oriental Sweetlips, Giant Squirrelfish, Bannerfish and many other species that congregate in this spot.

The Taste of Maldives

Lots pf people come to Maldives not only for its charimg scene, but also for its food. No matter where you are from, you can always find your own taste here. The hotels and restaurants in Malé, the capital of Maldives, serve the customers with western and eastern specialities. The cafés in Malé is an ideal place to experience local tastes. Maldivian food is spicy but milder than the food found in some neighbouring countries. Sweet, sour, hot and spicy food is found. Hedhikaa is the short eats popular in many cafés. Hot and spicy savouries are made of smoked fish, grated coconut, lime juice, onion and chilli.
Traditional Maldives food is similar to Indian food in that it involves, lots of spices, frying and baking from samosas to egg drop soup – so as a rule, if you like Indian food, you’ll probably like traditional Maldivian food too.Fish is a big part of island cooking in the Maldives, particularly tuna. Believe or not, on some resorts you can go out and fish for your dinner! Curries are popular too and they come in a myriad of varieties! Pepper, Spices, Cardamom, lime, ginger, coconut are all represented here. Go on if you are going to try Asian cuisine then the Maldives is the place to try it! Maldives food is the best!

Maldives coral island---Sun Island
Being one of the largest islands, sun island resort has every thing you could wish for and yet still manages to keep the maldivian charm.

This is the view you can expect while you relax on your verandah, the gardens and beach are kept immaculate as is everything else on this island.
The beaches on Sun Island Resort are fantastic as with all maldivian resorts and as the lagoon on this island is quite a size and is relatively shallow the water is really warm inside the reef and can easily reach 30 degrees if not more.
People worry they would get bored if they don't dive or surf, but on this island, you will never get bored. Only looking at the view and enjoying the sunshine, life worth it.

Maldives coral island---Kanifinolhu
Kanifinolhu is also called Kani. It started 20 years ago when a group of young Maldivians were enchanted by this island rich with coconut palms and dense tropical foliage untouched by man. They resolved to keep the essence of an unspoiled environment, even as they gradually added the comfort and sophistication demanded by today’s discerning travellers.
Kani is quite a unique resort. While you approach the resort on board the transfer boat which ferries you from the airport you will notice the dense vegetation. Buildings virtually cannot be seen. Then you walk along the wooden jetty towards Kani’s palm-fringed shore and finally find yourself captivated by a new experience. Entering the centre of the island you will be welcomed in the shade of a majestic old banyan tree and your holiday really begins. Information is from: http://www.kanifinolhu.com/html/island.html

Modives---Country at a Glance
Overhead View of Maldives
When I think about Maldives, I think about images of deep blue seas, turquoise reefs, white sandy beaches and palm trees. It is also a place full of character, where its people have long spent their days languishing in the very essence of idyll living. While it is the perfect place to sit on a beach and watch a sunset with a cocktail balanced on your hand, it is also a geographical marvel, knowing that there are thousands of fish swimming around the vivid corals just a few feet away from where you sit.
